Eldred Township Historical Society
October Meeting
at the
One Room Schoolhouse
We were so happy that the premier historic group in our town,
the Eldred Township Historical Society
accepted our invitation to
hold one of their monthly meetings at the One-Room Schoolhouse.
To be quite frank with you,
we were so happy
that they accepted
our invitation we didn't consider the weather.
After a very wet summer
we were now in the fall
and it was very cold
and darkness fell
much earlier
We began announcing
the meeting -
put a sign out front
and did a press release
that all the newspapers
& some tv stations ran.
And figured out how
to work around the
darkness & cold.
There are some deer that enjoy
using our lawn during
the fall & evening.
They didn't mind being
inconvenienced for a night.
We put a spotlight on the
outside staircase &
added another spotlight
to light a parking area
to the side of the school.
We tested the lighting and
it worked perfectly.
Since there is no heat at the
school we bought a
portable "jet air blasting"
propane heater.
I set it up about 10 hours
before the meeting
and it worked great.
But it was too noisy to
keep on during the meeting.
But it got us warm enough
for the night.
Folks started showing
up early and
had enough time to enjoy
looking at the exhibits.
The meeting began on time
and most of the seats
were filled with interested
residents & visitors
The historical society meets
at 6:30pm on the
3rd Tuesday of most months.
Their regular meeting place
is the Eldred Town Hall.
The public is welcomed to
attend their meetings.
One way to stay up to date
with them is through
their Facebook Page
Eldred Twp Historical Society.
Jalene Keiser is the President
and can be reached at
PO BOX 635
KUNKLETOWN, PA 18058
We would like everyone to know, the One-Room Schoolhouse
is available, free of charge, to any local group for their meetings & events.
The school is also available for information seminars & cultural events.
Our desire is to return this historic building to the community
that it began serving in 1855.
As part of our mission we are using the building to maintain an archive of:
historic photographs & documents
newspaper articles & books
recorded interviews with local residents
historic & cultural artifacts.
